چکیده

Siva and colleagues have demonstrated that localized thoracic radiation resulted in DNA damage at out-of-field sites. Although these interesting findings require validation, we discuss the important clinical implications of these data, especially in the era of immune therapies. Radiation-induced Non-targeted Effect and Carcinogenesis; Implications in Clinical Radiotherapy

Bystander or non-targeted effect is known to be an interesting phenomenon in radiobiology. The genetic consequences of bystander effect on non-irradiated cells have shown that this phenomenon can be considered as one of the most important factors involved in secondary cancer after exposure to ionizing radiation. Every year, millions of people around the world undergo radiotherapy in order to cu...

Radiation-induced bystander effect following hypo- fraction technique of grid therapy by use of sensitive molecular markers

Introduction: Radiation-induced bystander effect (RIBE) is a well-known response associated with the induction of radiation effects in non-irradiated cells via signaling of hit ones. As this so-called phenomenon has been largely investigated in low dose levels, few studies focused on higher dose levels such as grid therapy. Grid therapy or spatially fractionated gri...

A Case Report on Metastatic Thyroid Carcinoma: Radiation-induced Bystander or Abscopal Effect?

The effects of radiation on human tissues are not just local as once believed but they can appear even outside of the irradiated field [1-5]. Based on what has been published, both from in vitro and in vivo studies [6,7], it is known that those effects are at least regional. The irradiated tumor tissue may communicate, in some way, radiation effects to the not irradiated neighboring or distant ...

Radiation Induced Bystander Effect: From in Vitro Studies to Clinical Application

In the past 20 years, the classic paradigm in radiobiology recognizing DNA as the main target for the action of radiation has changed. The new paradigm assumes that both targeted and non-targeted effects of radiation determine the final outcome of irradiation. Radiotherapy is one of the main modality treatments of neoplastic diseases with intent to cure, or sometimes to palliate only, thus radi...
